Literature Review

In the current trends, technology is being embraced in every nation in a bid for diversification. As a result, the various activities are changing which are ranging from the security, registration to the education sector. For example, one will find out that electronic devices are gaining prominence in the security sector for frisking. In other areas, the paper works are being dropped to use computers and digital gadgets. On the education sector, however, there is a vivid change in the manner in which students are performing their research as well as submissions. Due to the vast number of search engines which are faster and offering various versions of Information, the students are seen to consult the computers through goggling rather than the previous means of consulting books and other written materials. As a result, the changes are displaying a variety of changes in the interactions within the library. It is for this reason that this paper seeks to investigate the various ways in which communication is affected.

Various ways in which the Changing Search for Literature in the Library is influencing the Student’s Emotions

The Human-Computer Interactions

The application of computer in the education sector is a plus for the sake of knowledge and scope of education. For example, it adds more skills to the students. Through these skills, they will be able to appreciate the technology and be able to fit in the job market which is taking a shift to the application of the computers into all the walks of life. However, the implementation of the computers seems to be changing the interactions of the students through two broad sectors which are the cognitive computing and the ubiquitous computing. In cognitive computing, the search for information through computers tends to change how a person thinks and how they read. For example, from research, it is found out that the students at times tend to suffer from boredom when in a library using books. The complexity and the application of the same material in their search would be the reason as to why this is happening.

Similarly, the use of books may make a student to tire due to the scratch of the brains especially when a concept is not elaborated in the book making them emotionally dull. Here, the formula in a mathematics book may be equally complex as the concept itself. As a result of this, the aspects of boredom, as well as stress in the library kick in, mainly because in this environment consulting a friend may be prohibited. However, as written by Culén, & Gasparini, (2015), this is a case that can significantly be rectified when the new search methods are put to use. For example, it is psychologically evident that the youths get so much interested in reading using computer methods rather than the books way. Their brains are set to enjoy the innovations introduced to them by the computer search methods. It is a concept that helps in the improvement of the feelings and the responsorial emotions during the study time.

Similarly, the students tend to embrace the new methods of learning since it is so engaging and when one feels tired it may also act as a means of entertainment. It gives teenagers a conducive environment of reading. Their brains tend to understand better than when using the books. In another occasion, Lopatovska, (2009) has another view on the same. According to him, this concept will see the students improving themselves, especially in their innovative capabilities. His work also elaborates on the design of researching for a good mood. It is through this library that the student will regain good feelings in the learning environment. For example, students can quickly develop or bring up things that they may not have known through the use of books only. For example, when a person or the student is using the computer to search on something, it is possible that there may be additional information that they can learn through the machine which is yet to be put down to paper to the books available in the library. It is a case that may arise since the information fed into the computer is original and up-to-date.

Ubiquitous Computing

Ubiquitous computing is the concept through which the computer services such as computing is made available every time whenever needed. Here, the students will be able to make their research whenever they feel like. The ubiquitous computing concept also allows the introduction of more materials into the computers which are relevant in the variety of studies that the students would be tasked to perform (Griffiths, & Brophy, 2005). For example, when a student is to does a particular literature review; they go to the library to the faculties relating to the topic where they then start perusing on the various books available looking for the most appropriate one. They may find some which may give them the relevant information needed or otherwise find those that are not providing full information.

Similarly, there is a possibility of finding that the library may not be having any book relating to whatever they are looking. As a result, the students then start struggling for information which leads to inadequacy of knowledge. However, the application of ubiquitous computing gives the students access to a variety of online materials including the e-books which are at their disposal to make a consultation. Through this the students get to read the most recent documents, and which are to date since the internet only records the most current and relevant, materials for its users. Also through the application of this concept, the learners get to access a wide range of equipment which offers a great chance to make good work and review. However, the sole aim of obtaining the books differs from the information by Lopatovska, I. (2009) which suggests that the primary need is to improve learning moods. Through his work, one gets to find that the learners will get an appealing environment where they are happy when studying.

Emotions of the Users

According to Jan, Anwar, & Warraich, (2016), the usage of these new methods of research is also linking to the different emotional feelings that are associated with the studies within the library. It is well known that the knowledge a person gets first links directly with their brain which is then the centre of all the emotions. Therefore, the difficulties and the different techniques would be seen to affect the feelings of the students. For example, it is evident from research that the students at most of the times get emotional when the exam times near. It is a condition that is controlled by the nature of their learning whereby the improperly prepared students tend to generate stress at this time.

On the other hand, when a person is adequately prepared, they feel alright, and they would even boast about for the situations. The case is similar to theses of reading or conducting a literature review from the library. The students tend to generate the same feeling which is branded by researchers as “library anxiety.” It is a feeling that makes the students lose concentration in one way or the other. For example, from researches conducted on the same, it is evident that most of the students fail to consult the library due to specific reasons. From a case done involving a variety of non-library consulting students, it is evident that they tend to develop a feeling of anxiety. It results due to such reasons like lack of assistance from the librarian or as well not being in good terms with them.

Emotional Barriers

Emotional barriers exist as the walls that prevent one from communicating from others. In the previous nature of the library, there exist a number of issues that would not permit one from interacting properly. For example, the rules and regulations and the fact that everybody is using their books which hinders them from consulting would be one of the barriers. However, as opposed to this, (Kwon, 2008), argues that such cases are led by students tending to develop fear once they get to the library or feels lost. The fear makes them dull when in a library and keeping to themselves. They may also want not to be seen as irresponsible especially to the cases where the librarians want to ensure that the students take care of the books especially by bringing them back to the place they should be. Similarly, a lack of knowledge on retrieving information of papers makes them develop a fear of using the library. However, with the introduction of the new and computerized mechanisms of consulting a library, such feelings can be alleviated. For example, from those students who tend to fear their interactions with the librarians, they will be free since the only place to go is to the computer. These gadgets will offer them all the information they would want in terms of skills and the materials just by the click of a button.

Equally, according to Carlile, (2007), the students who develop fear when in the library can exploit the advantage of having the computers to keep themselves busy and from the rest of the people within the library. This significantly makes them jovial in this environment. The choice of this method is because the researches show that they get to be fearful of being seen as book warmers and the continuous contact of their eyes with other people would trigger this. As a result of embracing the new methods, they keep everything to themselves as if they are in their private rooms thus enhancing their performance. These methods also help reduce the cases of Irresponsibility which triggers fear of confrontations with the librarians.

Effects on the Social Interactions of the Users

The library despite being a learning place, it equally requires some requirement. As elaborated in Ackerman, (1994, June), the interaction is essential to maintain the aspect of communism and togetherness between the people who are using this facility. In the previous stature of the library where books were the main modes of reading, the interaction is high due to the need to make consultations. In the current library or the modern type of library, there are minimal interactions between the library users. It is as a result of the privacy that comes with the human-computer Interaction where a single person uses them at a time. However, the introduction of the devices seeks to try and maintain the aspects of interaction and socialization. Although in the previous time the mode of socializing is non-formal since it applies verbal communication, the current seeks to introduce the digital kits. These are within the computers that will help in communicating with the system as well with the originators. For example, a student will have the chance to create a link or location through the use of these kits where they will be able to converse with their fellow students.

Similarly, as a result of the merging of departments, the students get the chance to ask questions from the registrar or other departments within the school through the digital means. For example, from research, it is evident that the students have had the urge to consult their teacher on various issues after school. The questions mainly include the clarification on the different parts of the study where they cannot comprehend. Therefore, through the linking kit, they will be able to interact freely, and they receive help (Appleton, 2016). On the other hand, Interaction kit helps the students making questions or seeking clarification from the originators on some issues concerning the system of the authors. The link helps in making sure that the library promotes the aspect of togetherness, and allows students to learn better.

Effects on Students through Media Convergence

Another view of the advantage of the application of the modern methods in the library, one will be able to access all the services of the school. In their research Hendrix, D. (2013, April) argues that it would be good if the services within the school are merged into one same centre. This research wants all the departments, as well as other school support systems, access to be standard. The fusion of these departments will be useful to the students as well as other school officials who would be interested in accessing any service (Joint, 2011). For example, a student may be having an issue with registration or a case like the editing of their profiles within the school which in recent times would call for visiting the administration for the purpose. It would help in the improvement of the status of the students who fear to visit the administration.

Change from Physical to Digital Learning

However, with the new mode of transacting which enables the students to access all the information through the computer, this is allowed. It is through it that a student can also consult the management on a particular Issue. From research, it is evident that in the past a lot of concerns were being made in its departments in various schools. To second this, Katuli-Munyoro, & Mutula, (2018) explains the importance of the online interaction between students and tutor on their openness in questioning. According to the article, it is important to them since there is no fear arises which is common when in a one on one interaction with the tutors. As a result, they feel confident and emotionally stable. The high number of students in the previous times would be seen to overcrowd the IT departments which are understaffed. The cases would also seem to be postponed over and over again due to the inability of handling them to the fullest. Therefore, the introduction of the new merging of departments will see the claims solved individually through the portal faster. It is because the students would not need to make any queues waiting to be served.

As written by Durrance, (2004), the new methods of consulting the library allow the linkage between the tutors and their students. The link offers a chance for the students to learn through the online channels and also receive their assignments from the Internet as well. It is a case that sees the school reduce the present instances in which the students have to go to the tutor’s office for the assignment or seat long hours in the classroom waiting for their representatives fetch it for them. Equally, this mode of presenting the task to the students enables them to work on their assignments within time. Through the linkages also, the students would present or hand in their duties through the online to the lecturer’s unless demanded in hard copy. The online submission and handling of assignment help in reducing the excess papers that the tutor has to carry with them.

From this paper, one will learn from the discussed issues that the modern library is a phenomenon mode of learning and interacting as well. Through the various advantages that come with it, the learners will be able to appreciate their works readily. The aspect of the promotion of Individual confidence and how students conduct themselves in the library Is critical for the learning inside the library. It not only helps the students understand better but also reduces the confrontation that in the past have been arising between them and the librarians. It helps the learners and other researchers in fighting the internal fear thus enhancing good results from the use of the library. Similarly, the students can access a variety of books which are to date and legitimate. Through the application of these books, they can develop in their skills level and adding more skills due to the embracing of computers in modern libraries. This helps in long term assistance in making the students more competent and skilful.
